Behind the Brand:
Returning to Teach for America

Teach For America (TFA) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to enlist, develop, and mobilize the nation's most promising future leaders to grow and strengthen the movement for educational equity and excellence. These leaders become "corps members" who commit to teaching for two years in a low-income community, where they're employed by local schools and confront the challenges and joys of expanding opportunities for kids.

After two years, corps members transition and become part of the TFA alumni network. Informed and inspired by their students, many alumni continue teaching; others pursue leadership roles in schools and school systems or launch careers in other fields that shape educational access and opportunity.

Grab your notebook and sharpen your #2s -- it’s time to get deep! In this storytelling experience lead by Ms. Marisha and hosted by Teach for America, we’ll fire up our creative engines and practice peaceful visualization to help discover new ways to bring balance and meaning to a life of social impact.

Strategy, Vision & Leadership

Experience Design // Marketing // Recruitment

I was both a consultant and facilitator tasked with the design and delivery of an evolving library of invaluable wellness content and resources.

Over the course of three years, we've consulted on regional and national initiatives, collaborated with cross functional teams, and facilitated wellness experiences that supported the launch of a social-emotional learning program for teachers, students, and staff. These efforts were intended to provide access to the support, trainings, and tools needed to sustain the wellbeing of those in the TFA network.

Solutions & Key Results

A library of marketing, sales and professional development assets (e-books, webinars, social chats, events, podcast series) that generated 20% new leads across experiences.

Additionally, Teach For America announced a $1,000,000 grant from the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation (OWCF) to expand the organization’s social-emotional learning (SEL) program.

TESTIMONIALS

  • Marisha was patient when understanding our needs, and held spaces that supported our educators, especially our BIPOC educators. From direct feedback from participants, Marisha made many feel that they could release emotions and move towards action. I feel she is a true partner in this work and not just a consultant or vendor.

    – Sheela Prasad, Vice President Network Impact at Teach For America

  • The purpose of the partnership with Ms. Marisha was to create a suite of wellness experiences that would cater to individuals who were considering careers in social impact. These experiences were also for people already in the TFA network. Marisha created experiences that were appealing and engaging to a wide audience. Her content drew people in. Specifically, I loved the self-guided nature of the e-book she created and how the activities were easily accessible for people to try. I liked how she connected her personal and professional story of being a part of TFA to why wellness is important to her and the work she does now -- I think this connected dots for people. Her sessions always felt very participatory and healing. Many experiences out there are "sit and get' -- Marisha gave you something to engage with! Our partnership with Ms. Marisha was very valuable.

Gracielle Yan, Director, External Operations and Project Management at Teach For America

  • Marisha, Thank you for holding space for our team. The opening meditation was so powerful in setting the tone for the experience. In addition - the invitation to close our eyes while you read or spoke was unexpectedly powerful for me. The focus on your voice and closing my eyes to eliminate visual distractions really enabled me to hone in on the power of your message. I appreciated the push out of my comfort zone when you asked me to create a poem about my thoughts. It got me to a new level of understanding about what I need to prioritize in relation to my wellness and why it matters so much to me...I wish we had more time.

Diana Walters, Senior Managing Director, External Affairs at Teach For America

  • The purpose of the collaboration was to deliver a series of wellness experiences that included passive and active avenues to recruit new prospects into our pipeline. Ms. Marisha's sessions were awesome, she was professional, organized, and had great communication. I would absolutely recommend her for future initiatives.
